A herd of zebras grazing on the Serengeti plains

Northern Tanzania

Serengeti

Endless plains and the herds that cross them.

Overview

About Serengeti

The Serengeti is huge, and it feels it. Short-grass plains run to the horizon in the south, broken by granite kopjes where lions rest and cheetahs keep watch.

The great migration moves through the Serengeti for most of the year: calving on the southern plains early in the year, then north towards the Mara as the dry season sets in. We plan where you stay around where the herds are likely to be.

It sits next to the Ngorongoro Crater, so the two are usually visited together.

Best time to go

Jun – Oct, Jan – Mar

Wildlife is good all year. January to March is calving season in the south; June to October is dry, with the herds moving north.
