Overview
About Marrakech
Marrakech is busy, colourful and best explored on foot. The old medina is a maze of souks selling spices, leather, lamps and carpets, and at dusk the square of Jemaa el-Fnaa fills with food stalls, musicians and storytellers.
Staying in a riad, a traditional house built around a courtyard, gives you a quiet place to come back to. Beyond the medina are the Majorelle Garden, the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs.
The High Atlas Mountains are an hour or two away, with Berber villages, valley walks and views of snowy peaks in winter and spring. Marrakech is also the usual starting point for a trip to the Sahara at Merzouga.
Best time to go
