Overview
About Ghana & Senegal
Ghana's coast is lined with old forts and castles from the Atlantic slave trade. Cape Coast and Elmina castles, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are moving places to visit with a guide, and the fishing towns around them are full of life.
Inland from Cape Coast, Kakum National Park has a canopy walkway high in the rainforest. In Accra there are markets, live music and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
In Senegal, Dakar has a lively arts and music scene, and a short ferry ride away is Gorée Island, with its colourful houses and the House of Slaves. Many travellers combine the two countries in one heritage journey.
Best time to go
Nov – Mar
The dry season in both countries, with less humidity. December is busiest; the Harmattan wind can bring hazy skies from December to February.
