Cairo, Luxor and Aswan
Pyramids & the Nile
The pyramids at Giza, then slowly up the Nile.
Overview
About Pyramids & the Nile
A first trip to Egypt usually starts in Cairo, with the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx on the edge of the city and the treasures of ancient Egypt in its museums.
From there, most travellers head south to Luxor, with Karnak and Luxor temples on the east bank and the tombs of the Valley of the Kings on the west. A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan stops at temples along the river, and in Aswan there are feluccas, Nubian villages and the temple of Philae.
Abu Simbel, far to the south near the border with Sudan, is a popular extension by road or air.
Best time to go
