Cape Town
Table Mountain, two oceans and the winelands next door.
Overview
About Cape Town
Cape Town sits between Table Mountain and the Atlantic, and few cities have a backdrop like it. You can take the cableway or hike to the top, spend an afternoon at the V&A Waterfront, or take the ferry to Robben Island.
A day on the Cape Peninsula takes in Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Point and the African penguins at Boulders Beach. Inland, the winelands around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are an easy day trip.
From July to November, southern right whales come close to shore along the coast, with Hermanus about two hours away. Cape Town also pairs well with a safari in Kruger.
Best time to go
Nov – Mar
Summer, from November to March, is warm and dry. Whales are along the coast from July to November, with the best sightings in September and October.
